Thai, or more formally known as Central Thai, is the official language of Thailand and is spoken by over 70 million people. It belongs to the Tai-Kadai language family, which includes several other languages spoken in Southeast Asia. Thai is a tonal language, meaning that the tone in which a word is spoken can change its meaning.
